Essay sample on #8220;The Socratic Method#8221;

Paper test on #8220;The Socratic Method#8221; The Socratic strategy was created by in all honesty Socrates-the back up parent of western way of thinking. Its target is to separate what we think, and to see reality with open-minded perspectives. It is done through a discourse between individuals, where somebody states something as evident, and others pose inquiries to basically survey whether the case is right. Socrates built up this strategy through his casual talks with a wide scope of individuals. In the long run, through his inquiries, the people he conversed with started to question their responses to key requests, for example, â€Å"What is justice?† Thus, the Socratic technique enters profound into speculation procedures and uncovered the blemishes of our fundamental thinking. In the accompanying sections, the strategy will be talked about in detail, from its turn of events, procedure, and applications. Advancement Socrates (c. 470†399 BC) accepted that learning was less about social occasion data, however increasingly about keeping a receptive outlook. His style of showing was through discourse, whereby the understudy would think the person knows something, yet was indicated that their knowing was not demanding. Socrates began to educate through these exchanges after a companion of his, Chaerephon, had visited the Oracle of Delphis of his discoursed were recorded and explained his Plato’s works. Despite the fact that Socrates may have appeared to be professing not to know anything, through his shrewdness and philosophical thoughtfulness, he comprehended that information can't be accomplished (Jarratt, Susan C.). Procedure It requires two individuals: one individual with a case, and one individual who poses inquiries about the announcement. It follows a few steps:] The examiner permits the other individual to exemplify their case. The examiner requests proof from the other individual. The examiner challenges the suppositions of the individual creation the case. The examiner finds a special case in the possibility of the individual who made the first articulation. The examiner requests that the individual change their unique case. The examiner experiences more requests and exemptions to show that the improving of the first thought isn't right. Either the individual who made the case gets exasperated or communicates question, or the examiner offers a convincing expression about the bogus idea of the cases that have been made (wikiHow). All through this procedure, it is key that the two sides don't lose control or baffled particularly the examiner. The Socratic technique is finished with shared regard, goodness, and tact. Applications The primary application for the Socratic strategy is demonstrating how ideas that are dubious or need solidness can be uncovered as bogus. These are frequently broad standards we hold dear. It causes us to reconsider our establishments of thought and qualities. This technique is likewise useful for separating philosophical hypotheses one has or others have. It is an approach to test hypotheses of the mind. Present day use of the Socratic technique can be found in theory as well as in coaching and educating. Rather than mentioning to understudies what to fix in their assignments, numerous instructors trust it is smarter to utilize the Socratic technique with the goal that understudies show up at the appropriate responses themselves. This procedure permits students to reverberate firmly with answers (â€Å"Socratic Method of Teaching: Pros and Cons†). The Socratic technique was created by one of the originators of western way of thinking, Socrates. In the wake of hearing he should be the most astute individual in Greece as indicated by the Oracle, he tried out the case by having exchanges with conspicuous masterminds of the time. He decided through his inquiries that his insight lay in realizing that he knew nothing, while others thought they knew something. These discoursed framed the Socratic strategy, which was later received by Plato. This device isn't utilized to demonstrate anything. Or maybe, it is for separating considerations and ideas that are taken as realities or valid, and indicating that information is basically non-reachable. Jarratt, Susan C. Question: Talk about howWoolworths Limited Service Encounters influence the Business Management of the Customers. Answer: Presentation In any assistance industry, the client experience on a specific brand assumes a significant job in choosing whether the person in question will buy a similar help in future. The client offers their judgment on the administration dependent on the administration experiences or the critical point in time that the person encounters while collaborating with the specialist co-op (Bradley et al. 2013, p.512). In this way, on account of any help based associations, the organization should concentrate on improving the client contact focuses which are the key zones where there is a current connection with the client. This is the perfect open door for the organizations to guarantee that they leave a positive effect on the clients. In this paper, the creator will be taking a gander at the effect that administration experiences in the situation of Woolworths Limited. The paper utilizes the genuine circumstance of what occurs in this organization and how its administration experiences influence the business the board of the clients. There are a few snapshots of truth on account of the client, and it is beyond the realm of imagination here to examine every one of them. Subsequently, this paper thinks that its reasonable to address administrations experiences among the Woolworth Company clients dependent on both behind the stage and front stage tasks. Prior to taking part in further conversation, it is critical to decide the significance of administration experiences. Administration experiences include the blend of feelings where the clients judge the nature of administration offered to them in a financial sense concerning the different encounters that they have. There are such a significant number of elements that whenever oversaw appropriately can prompt a superior consumer loyalty and can build the business impressively. Stream Chart Showing Service Marketing of Woolworths Limited Centrality of Service Encounter In the stream diagram, it shows different procedures that a client experiences subsequent to going to the organization. A portion of this experience legitimately include the client making a few requests on item includes. Notwithstanding, a few clients to take part in items request. This encourages the organization to permit time for every client as per their necessities. The organization needs to deal with the two kinds of clients adequately to guarantee that their administration experience is improved (Gazzoli, Hancer, Kim, 2013, p.384). In this way, Woolworth Limited has structured these administration encounters so that they can change over unbiased or negative enthusiastic encounters of the clients while entering the premises to a positive one. The passionate underpinnings of the administration experiences hold most extreme significance and must be overseen appropriately to make the administration experience useful for the client. For instance for this situation, despite the fact that the deal individual isn't accessible to take care of the client, they must be kept drawn in with the things that they like so they don't create negative emotions about the earth. Numerous associations do this by having different amusement choices for their clients like different Frequently Asked Questions handouts and having a match running on a T.V close to the holding up territory. This should be possible just if the specialist organizations can comprehend different touch focuses that the client would communicate with and the different situations that are probably going to happen (Giesbrecht, Schwabe, Schenk, 2016, p.172). Term impacts likewise must be mulled over where the association the board should guarantee that the client is made mindful when there is a huge advancement in their all out tasks and simultaneously they should guarantee that there are relatively few discrete strides wherein the equivalent is being separated into (Lings, Beatson, Gudergan, 2008, p.1435). Similarly, the Woolworth Limited applied all the above notice approaches when keeping the clients under control before they are served. Another central point that is probably going to influence the consumer loyalty is that the apparent control that the client has in the procedures. For this situation, Woolworth Limited as opposed to making the client sit tight for quite a while they can give the person in question the alternative of booking the space dependent on the accessibility of the deal individual. The more the apparent control that the client has on the framework, almost certain he is to be happy with the administration arrangement (Lings, Beatson, Gudergan, 2008, p.1443). In any case, this may not be conceivable in all the situations where there are a few interior frameworks which the client has little control on; in such cases, the organization must guarantee that there is decency in procedures with the goal that the clients don't feel that they are being underestimated. Thusly, dealing with the apparent control is likewise one of the central point that influence the business in a major way. Each assistance collaboration is an open door for the organization to depict their fulfillment on the brand. In this way, it might be contended that every positive experience that the client must be strengthened to their preferred image. The Woolworth Limited utilize these administration experiences in communicating with the clients and comprehend their requirements and needs and plan the administration contributions in like manner. This is a perfect stage for the organization in getting the input from the clients and in this manner can make the fundamental impromptu creations as and when required (Botschen, 2012, p.16) Administrative Implications As referenced over the organization should utilize these administration experiences in getting the clients to their crease. In this way, in contrast to different trains in the administration stable, administration experiences can't be judged only dependent on any scientific conditions; there are a great deal of subjective variables impacting the equivalent. The administrative ramifications that these experiences can have may straightforwardly influence degree of profitability and the piece of the pie as it legitimately impacts the clients decision of a brand (Framework for vitality showcase correspondences, 2012., p.30). Along these lines, this sounds great particularly on account of an organization's image where trust matters the most and the majority of the promoting techniques depend on verbal exchange in the market. Concerning, the greater part of the current day organizations might be the equivalent; it is only the manner in which the administration is being offered that issues. There isn't sufficient spotlight on the administration brain research some portion of the business that can assist Woolworth with improving the administration experiences in the association (Johns, 2012, p.101-115). Thusly, the organization needs to distinguish different help associations that the clients will have during an exchange and recognize what all can adversely influence the clients. Enhancements must be made to ensure that the clients are made mindful of the fulfillment of the procedure, the span and different strides before hand to stay away from any uncertainty (Young 2016, p.178). This methodology will help them in decreasing the expense and exertion as the quantity of revamps when there is no vagueness is far less, and this would likewise improve the consumer loyalty. These experiences additionally might be utilized by the organization to sell up different administrations that they offer. There has been sufficient and more frameworks and checks created by the business to deal with the interest and the flexibly needs of the association, however almost no exertion has been placed into making them powerful. Along these lines, adding the mental measurement to the equivalent would expand the brand devotion and the clients who are happy with the administration will, thus, allude them to an ever increasing number of clients that can help them in building the base (Lloyd Luke, 2011, p.178). Indeed, even the interior exchanges where the clients are not legitimately included yet framing a basic piece of the entire assistance process must be mulled over with the goal that the general help experience is charming and smoothed out (Zhang, Kosaka, Yabutani, 2011, p.26). Organizations nowadays have been spending a gigantic financial plan of advancing their image through different mediums. On the off chance that Woolworth Limited figures out how to get their administration piece right can get to the highest point of the psyche of the clients with insignificant expenses and keep up the equivalent for a noteworthy time References Botschen,G. In Fahrenheit 451, Clarisse Is One Of The Main Characters

In Fahrenheit 451, Clarisse is one of the main characters throughout the book. Although Mildred and Captain Beatty influenced Montag, Clarisse impacted him the most. In this book, Ray Bradbury kills off one of the most influential characters. Even though she is â€Å"dead†, Bradbury somehow made her a symbol. We don’t know why Bradbury killed off this important character, but it left readers wondering. She had some type of influence on Montag that made him think about things. She was interested in learning and asking questions. I believe that Clarisse has impacted Montag because she taught him that thinking was an option. One reason for this to be true is that she is very curious. She is curious about the world and people around her. This†¦show more content†¦It was everyone else, and me. She was the first person in a good many years I’ve really liked. She was the first person I can remember who looked straight at me as if I counted. (68.)† I think that this quote means that Montag and Mildred don’t have a lot in common and he liked Clarisse better. I also think that it showed that Clarisse is different from others. Through Clarisse, Montag has learned things about himself that he didn’t know. The third reason was that Clarisse loved to ask questions. Usually, when something happens, we usually ask â€Å"how did it happen?† This is switched around for Clarisse. Clarisse wanted to know â€Å"why something had happened.† Montag tells Clarisse, â€Å"No, no, † he said. â€Å"It was a good question. It’s been a long time since anyone cared enough to ask. A good question (26.)† I think that she asked many questions because she wasn’t allowed to ask them in school. At her school, students sat down in class and stayed silent. She stopped going to school because they weren’t supposed to talk to each other and ask questions. Basically they watched videos that taught them i nformation. Clarisse hated school and people considered her as antisocial. Another example is that she asked Montag if he has read any of the books that he has burned. Analysis Of David Mamet s Glengerry Glen Ross

The business world is known for being stressful and the epitome of masculine characteristics and behavior. In David Mamet’s play Glengerry Glen Ross, relative absence of feminine characters highlights the idea that women are unwelcome in the workplace because they are seen as inferior. Therefore, men in the company fight to prove themselves because effeminate men are immensely looked down upon. The four salesmen in the play regard the business world as a â€Å"man’s place† and, therefore, believe they must prove their masculinity by winning the company’s competition. The company’s bosses, Mitch and Murray, decide this month that the salesman who sells the most will win a Cadillac, the second best salesman will win a pair of steak knives, and the bottom two men will be fired. In an attempt to win this competition, the men resort to manipulation and deceit due to the stress and high pressure placed on them. From this we see that these men, Aaranow, Mo ss, Roma, and Levene, are willing to gain success at the expense of someone else. Mamet’s lack of feminine characters and his use of dramatic, exaggerated language are used as tools to support the idea that these men believe the word â€Å"man† signifies more than just gender. Rather to them, this three letter word means having control over one’s own fate and fortune. They, therefore, believe to have a successful life, one must work hard even if it is unscrupulous and in this case illegal. Court clashes over free speech Essay Example For Students

Court clashes over free speech Essay Americas courtrooms have become the new battle front in the continuing culture wars. Currently stuck in a quagmire of litigation is the documentary Damned in the USA. Winner of a 1991 International Emmy, the film examines the ongoing controversy over the National Endowment for the Arts funding of controversial and sexually explicit art. British director Paul Yule and co-producer Jonathan Stack filmed an interview with ultraconservative crusader Rev. Donald Wildmon of the American Family Association and juxtaposed it with images from the homoerotic photographs of Robert Mapplethorpe. The film aired to accolades on Britains Channel 4 and was subequently shown on Swedish and Spanish television. But when the film was featured at the Margaret Mead Film Festival at New Yorks Museum of Natural History, Rev. Wildmon filed a multi-million-dollar lawsuit claiming the filmmakers. had violated a contract requiring his organizations permission for distribution of the film in the U.S. In April, Channel 4 and a group of film, religious and civil liberties organizations countersued, arguing that the contract merely forbade making the interview available to other media and only gave Wildmon copyrights to his interview. A federal court hearing was set for May 1 in New Yorks southern district. A jury in Chattanooga, Tenn. has rejected that citys attempt to ban a performance of the musical Oh! Calcutta! The controversy began last year when city officials refused to permit the shows producer to lease either of two municipally owned theatres. Chattanooga went to civil court seeking judicial support for its decision, arguing that the show was obscene under community standards and in violation of local laws prohibiting public nudity. Although no jury was required for the civil suit, the judge empaneled an advisory jury. After a week-long trial, Oh! Calcutta! was found not to be obscene, even in Chattanooga. A Washington state judge has issued a partial judgment against the Janis Joplin estate, which had sued playwright Susan Ross and two producers who staged a play based on the life of the 60s rock star. The Joplin estate claimed that the play Janis, which premiered in Seattle in May 1991, infringed the estates right of publicity. The estate claimed it had exclusive rights to use the name, persona and style of Joplin, and objected in particular to the second act of the play, which imitated a Joplin concert. The estate sold exclusive rights to Joplins persona to a New York producer who plans to open Love, Janis, a play written by Joplins sister Laura Joplin, next year on Broadway, followed by a film, radio special and release of a set of CDs and tapes. A friend of the court brief filed by the American Civil Liberties Union argued that the right of publicity gives a celebritys estate control over commercial items such as souvenir T-shirts and mugs, but not over artistic endeavors. Canada, also experiencing the sturm und drang of freedom of expression disputes, has boldly broken new legal ground. The Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision, set a precedent and expressly accepted the argument that pornography harms women. The decision bans sexual material that portrays violence toward or degradation of women, despite the obvious infringement on freedom of expression. The courts new standard allows prosecutors to decide which materials violate community standards or tolerance and meet the test of undue sexual exploitation. It should be noted, however, that this decision did not overrule the Canadian law that protects sexually explicit material that is part of a serious theme or has an artistic purpose. Finally, the NEA four Karen Finley, John Fleck, Holly Hughes and Tim Miller are awaiting a judges decision on their pending suit against the Endowment, which charges the agency with unconstitutionally rejecting their grant applications. .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 , .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 .postImageUrl , .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 , .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5:hover , .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5:visited , .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5:active { border:0!important; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5:active , .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5 .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u82d23ac788f3ad0fdf73270a1c6b91f5:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: They might be elves EssayNEA on Record Sixteen playwrights have received 1992 fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts totaling $200,000 and ranging from $10,000 to $17,000. Compare and Contrast the Attitudes and Values of the Two Essays

Compare and Contrast the Attitudes and Values of the Two Essays Compare and Contrast the Attitudes and Values of the Two Essay Compare and Contrast the Attitudes and Values of the Two Essay The former does this by a ale narrator writing a poem to a female, using Imagery to entice her. The latter by using a duke, explaining the story of what happened to his previous wife whilst looking at her picture. Both the poems use imagery and other poetic devices but in different ways. The first uses them more often to impress her. The second uses them in a different sense as the better part of the poem is the description of his previous wife and how she died. Also they differ in their use of tone, language, style and devices. The poem His Coy is an argument and therefore structured like one. The poem has three stanzas; the first and second are premises, whilst the last Is used as a conclusion. This forms a logical argument; 1. ? we 2. 3. As the motive of the poem Is to convince his mistress to have sex with him the quotation shows this as It Is modeled as a persuasive argument. What this tells us about the narrator Is that he will do anything to get what he wants even If the other person In the time it was written it was a crime in society for a woman to have sex before she gets married, in the poem she is not as only his mistress. He is insensitive and selfish as he respect her values, it loud only be for his pleasure. In comparison Last is a dramatic monologue whilst using enjambment, Far hands/Worked busily a and is written in iambic pentameter. In the poem most of the lines do not end with any type of punctuation, enjambment. The poem being a dramatic monologue adds to the eccentric behavior, also this makes him seem like he was dominant over his previous wife which is his view on woman, that they are below him. In Dalton as he uses the enjambment this exaggerates the tone he uses. This makes him seem angry at her, which Is why he ended up taking her life. However at the end there Is more punctuation which suggests Tanat en NAS remnant mess T Tanat en NAS a violators Ana Decodes calmer. As the poem is written in rhymed iambic pentameter, it maintains an even beat throughout the poem. Iambic pentameter has been said to be the most natural cadence of the English language. It consists of an iamb, which is two syllables: an unstressed followed by a stressed. An example of an iamb might be the words a heart, drawn from the lines: A heart-how shall I say? O soon made This shows that the duke sounds calm, using a standard English rhythm of speech. However this contrasts with the enjambment which makes his actions seem normal. Through the structure of the poems it shows that the two narrators attitudes are similar because they think that they have power over women, they are above them. However it also shows they are unlike as in the former poem he is being selfish and what he wants is only for his pleasure, whilst the latter narrator show this quality. In the first poem the speaker uses imagery, alliteration and different statements to try to impress and flatter his lover. It starts off with a hyperbolic statement to make an impact, we but world enough, and imagery constantly throughout, of vast eternity?C,-1?0 and alliteration This shows a sensitive side of the speaker, he uses these poetic devices to make a greater meaning and give the poem more feeling. Also some of the imagery he uses greatly appeals to the readers senses, this makes him seem very persuasive and sly as he purposefully chose these words to do what it does. The alliteration contributes to the euphony of the passage lending it a musical and more poetic air. This shows he knows how to write a love poem and he again he has all the right techniques for persuading a person. The second poem goes also use imagery, however in a different way and for a different purpose. The narrator is describing the duchess to the emissary my last duchess painted on the This shows he is only describing the painting but as he is using the imagery he describes what she was like and how she made him angry. However as he describes her it makes her seem like she is Just an object, which she was to him. This is his view of woman, that they belong to a man which was very common belief at that time. From the poetic devices used their attitudes are different because in the first he shows his sensitive side and tries to put a bit of nuance into it. However the imagery in the second goes against him as he believes that she was his object and belonged to him. In both poems there is the recurrent theme of irony. In His Coy Mistress?C,-1?0 the entire first section is ironic in the sense that the speaker knows he being genuine. The speaker uses words to his advantage and we can take little of what he says to be truthful. In Line 1, we but world enough, and The first section of the poem is a series of hyperbolic statements meant to impress and flatter the reader but the first word sets this section in the subjective tense. Essentially he is saying if they were to live forever he would promise her all of these things. However of course they live forever and the speaker knows this before he starts the flattery. Line 19, lady, you deserve this Part of the speaker irony here is the knowledge is that although the lady might deserve it, she is immortal so she cannot have it. All of his extravagant assertions throughout this section are put in perspective because they are only based on fantasy. What this tells us tout ten narrator Is Tanat en wall say anything, even IT It Is contracted Day enamels, just to get this woman to sleep with him. This shows he is very persuasive but sin? at all genuine. In comparison in Last Duchess?C,-1?0 verbal irony is demonstrated when the Duke says to the emissary, had you skill, In speech (which I have The Duke is not a modest man but this makes him seem slightly humble in the middle of his domineering speech, this establishes situational irony. This shows how the Duke needs control and complete power and he causes a weariness to overcome the reader through irony. From the irony used in the poems, they are different because in the first its shows that he is to genuine and that he only says these things to get his mistress to sleep with him. Only says these words to get what he wants and for his pleasure. Then in the second it shows the need of complete control over her and his dominance. His Coy Mistress?C,-1?0 is a poem in which the speaker tries to convince the listener to go to bed with him, as such we might expect the tone to be coarse, lusty or even insincere as the presumption is that the speaker will say anything to argue his case. Ther e is a light hearted tone to the poem, which suffers when the concept of death is brought up. The overall tone is more melancholy than what would have been expected. The speaker says, hundred to adore each As throughout the entire first section of the poem, here the speaker flatters his lover to the point of exaggeration. This makes the tone in this section insincere and indecent. The poet speaks about death using the words, ? and What he says here alters the tone initiated in the first section through imagery associated with decomposition. These words institutes the realism of death. The tone here is sincere and melancholic and its effect lasting. Then the speaker increases the tempo and uses words like, and This is in the final section of the poem. These words give emphasis to the tone but they have been affected by the pensive mood which was set before. In comparison in Last Duchess?C,-1?0 the duke makes the poem about him by using words like, this makes the tone of the poem arrogant and possessive. However the sentence structure the Duke has used creates a conversational tone. It is the tone in which the duke speaks of his previous wife which displays the disturbing psychology behind his actions. From the tone the two poems differ. The former attitude is insincere at the beginning but then becomes nine yet melancholy. Whilst the latter is arrogant and possessive. In conclusion the poets attitude in His Coy Mistress?C,-1?0 is that he is a selfish man, who is only writing this for his pleasure. He is being romantic in the first section by complimenting her a lot and saying she is worth everything. But then he says she have it which makes him insincere and not genuine at all. He is also slightly melancholic towards the end. The aim of the poem was to persuade his mistress to sleep with him. I think he has done this rather well because he uses very rueful persuasive techniques and has used ways of appealing to the listener. The poets attitude in Last Duchess?C,-1?0 is that he thinks he has power over women and they are beneath him. He saw his last wife as an object which he was in possession of which bring with that a need of control over her. He is also moldering Ana arrogant. I en alma AT tans poem Is to explain ten plectrum AT Nils last duchess and what happened to her. He has done this, as it is only describing. However Browning shows us the traits of the Duke without ever mentioning them explicitly.

CI Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words

CI - Essay Example Another impact of this study of effects of merger events is the impact it has on the competitiveness of the post merger firm in terms of profitability and efficiency. The competitiveness is a critical aspect to be considered by investors and managers before deciding on whether a merger is an appropriate financial decision to make. The way stock markets react to events around a merger and specifically the announcement of a merger can be used to reasonably predict the future financial and operational performance of firm in a financial market so long as it is efficient. This research looked at the stock performance of some of the listed stocks before a merger announcement and after the announcement. The daily stock prices were noted and analyzed statistically to highlight the changes in return and correlated with the stated event and other similar competing firms’ stock prices. It was generally noted that the announcement of a merger generally resulted in certain changes in the p rices of stock. Review of literature points out that there is a negative correlation between the stock returns and hence the value of the firm after an announcement of a merger. This could be explained using hypothesis put forward by behavioral finance scholars. This particular empirical study further reinforces the studies in which the post merger firm values as indicated by the stock prices using the cumulative average abnormal returns CAARs reduce with the announcement of a merger, just a few days of the announcement and well after the announcement has reached the public. Introduction Economists and financial analysts are sometimes faced with the challenge of figuring out the magnitude of the effect an economic event has on the underlying value of firms. This implies that they have to measure the impact based on a particular cause or event. To achieve this the event study methods have developed that assist in the construction of effective models that easily predict the value of a firm based on an event. This is basically an event study that employs residual analysis to evaluate and analyze how a market behaves to an announcement of a merger. A company merger would mean that a company would inherently have more capital size, increased in operations and more diversification. This however does not always result in improved profitability as it could be hindered by excessive costs of acquisition and regulation obstacles. In previous studies it has been noted that an event such as the announcement of a merger had a positive market reaction. This can be investigated using abnormal stock returns noted during such events. As earlier stated the announcement of a merger and or acquisition shall be regarded as the event for the purposes of this study. This research paper has the following objectives: (a) to investigate whether news or any other publicly available information can influence the price patterns of the acquirer and (b) to examine the impact a merger announc ement has on the stock prices of the acquired. The research shall be carried out by comparing the stock prices and daily returns before the merger announcement and immediately after the merger announcement using the daily closing stock prices. This particular paper is organized into four sections. The first section shall review the literature on previous research on event studies related to mergers

Impact of the Affordable Care Act Essay Example for Free

Impact of the Affordable Care Act Essay Impact of the Affordable Care Act on North Carolinas Uninsured Health insurance is one of the most important benefits a citizen can have in America. Some Americans who work acquire health insurance through their employers. But then, there are Americas who do not work and therefore, are unable to have health insurance. The Affordable Care Act was signed into law on March 23, 2010 by President Obama and the United States Congress, (North Carolina’s Institute of Medicine, 2012). This paper will focus on the impact of the Affordable Care Act on North Carolina’s uninsured. With the rising cost in health care and high co-payments pertaining to medical conditions, some people cannot afford health insurance. With the loss of jobs and losing their livelihood, some people cannot afford insurance. Individuals who work with small businesses do not have health insurance because these small businesses cannot afford to provide health insurance benefits for their employees. Some people just do not work and therefore, do not have health insurance. This whole uninsured population is the ones who do not seek health care when they have health issues or have chronic medical conditions, and also do not practice preventative care. According to the North Carolina’s Institute of Medicine (2012), there was 1.6 million (19%) uninsured people living in North Carolina in 2010 and According to Milstead (4th edition, 2013), this group of uninsured whose income was below federal poverty level included pregnant women, children 18 years old and under, parents who were employed or unemployed, adults without children, disabled and the elderly population. By 2014, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) offered much new coverage for the uninsured population. It required states to offer Medicaid insurance to working families whose income was below the federal poverty level of 138%, that is $30,429 for a family of four ( Milstead, 2013). According to North Carolina’s Institute of Medicine (NCIOM), For a family making above the federal poverty level, but not enough to afford  health insurance, the ACA provided subsidies to help them purchase private insurance through new insurances that was created by the ACA. Before ACA, Medicaid only covered children, parents, pregnant women, disabled people and the elderly. Now in 2014, it is available to all adults making below the federal income level (NICOM, 2012). This population of insured people will now receive health services, preventative services, and prescription drugs and so on. By 2014, with the Affordable Care Act in effect, according to (NCIOM, 2012), almost 800,000 of people living in North Carolina that were not insured will be insured. 41% of this population will obtain insurance through private insurances and 59% through Medicaid. With this amount of surplus in insured patients, health care workers and professionals will be in greater demand, especially primary care providers. This may cause a longer wait period to see ones’ primary provider or a specialist. There will also be a decrease in treating preventative care. North Carolina is aware that there will be a shortage of medical personnel’s with this demand. They have to find the funds to educate and have enough health care providers to ensure that the workforce is available to meet the state’s demand of insured people. The health care workforce, who are the primary workers, include doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, physicians’ assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists , medical assistants, nurse midwives, and licensed practical nurses. This workforce, in a broad spectrum, ensures that patients receive optimal quality care, treat and teach preventative care, manage chronic illnesses, both physically and mentally. To be able to increase the medical workforce in order to meet the health care needs of the population, North Carolina’s schools and universities have increased their students’ class capacities. Some of these schools including Duke University School of Medicine, The UNC Chapel Hill Department of Pediatrics/ UNC Hospitals, the nursing programs at UNC Wilmington, Western Carolina University and many others have received funding from the ACA and other agencies. Other groups are responsible to offer loans and scholarships in the effort to attract students into the medical field. Rural training is also available to students as well. (NICOM, 2012). North Carolina is also  encouraging a diversified form of teaching and is encouraging minorities to be a part of the medical workforce. They believe that patients will adhere to practicing better health and lifestyle changes if they are told to do so from someone of their own race. North Carolina is taking appropriate steps to be able to meet the health care needs of its insured people. The State has taken steps to expand the medical team workforce through offering scholarships and grants to different universities. This is to enable patients to receive access to good quality health care, both in the urban and rural areas. Community centers infrastructures are been redesigned to meet the needs of the insured population. Health insurance companies are responsible to provide health benefits such as low co-payments according to the plan an individual or family signs up for (NICOM, 2012). Health insurance companies are also responsible to be able to help pay for prescriptions drugs, outpatient care, emergency care, hospitalization, and preventative care practices. According to( NICOM, 2012), North Carolina is not a healthy state, but with the introduction of the ACA, they are planning to become a healthy state in the year 2020. The ethical implications of the Affordable Care Act are giving the citizens of North Carolina a right to have health insurance. No one should avoid going to the doctor when they are sick because they cannot afford it. Everyone should have a choice to practice preventative care medicine. According to the Whitehouse.gov, pre-existing conditions will no longer be a barrier to obtaining health insurance. Individuals and families will receive tax credit support to pay for their coverage. All in all, the Affordable Care Act has given all Americans the right to have health insurance. References North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM). Essay --

Everglades National Park is sanction to some of the most exceptional animal and plant ecosystems. From the tall, sunny rock pinelands to the humid, lush hardwood hammocks to the tropical, sawgrass marsh, the everglades is believed to be one of the most diverse and astonishing ecosystems in the United States. Sounds of birds tickle your eardrums, beautiful flowers bloom in the radiant morning sun, animals graze peacefully as they go about their day in their natural habitat. It is a breath taking sight and the most popular place for sightseers to go observe the wildlife or kick back and relax and take in the soothing fresh air. As you travel deeper into the hammocks you start to notice over population of certain plants. These types of plants are called invasive species, which are plants that are brought form other countries and other ecosystems and inserted into the everglades ecosystem. These plants begin to take over the everglades and eventually kill off and prevent native plants from growing. Plants like the Brazilian pepper, which kills all surrounding vegetation and can cause skin irritation, are of the highest threat to the everglades. They currently cover about 700,000 acres of north and southern Florida, and about 400,000 acres just in the Everglades National Park. Roughly 18,000 plants species are native to the numerous ecosystems of North America. Our native flora, United States native plants, allocates the infrastructure of the historic American landscape and determines the diverse ecosystems and regions of our country. These plants also supply natural sources of food, fiber, and other elements that we rely on for everyday life. The communities of various native plants have been significantly minimized as a result of ... ...r controlled activities. Natural upheaval such as fires, floods, tornadoes, and tree falls also provide way for invasive species to grow. The huge change brought upon the Florida landscape over the last few hundred years has set things out of balance. Without exotic species, native species and ecosystems would normally benefit from natural disturbances because they provide a chance for genetic mixing and nutrient recycling to occur. In early 2008, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Everglades National Park joined together to initiate a Florida Invaders, a program used to raise awareness about what’s being done and what we should do to help stop invasive flora and fauna from spreading. â€Å"The program was a good start but they should further raise awareness of the seriousness of the problem,† said Christine Beck, Ecology teaching assistant and FIU.

tories, fairytales and myths

Stories, fairytales and myths that were created thousand years ago are relevant today. These folklores have provided the basis for some cultures and in some cultures is a way of life. Stories and fairytales are relevant today, because they often have hidden meanings, which are often times used as examples in everyday life.Take for instance the story of the Tortoise and the Hare, this story shows that being big and strong does not help you to win, but using your wits and your brain is what helps you to overcome certain things. It also teaches us today, that slow and steady won the race and it never pays to be in a hurry and brag about how good you are.The story of Cinderella is relevant to today’s society as, you still have a lot of Cinderalla’s around. Especially the part about the wicked stepmother and how her siblings treated her. This story of Cinderella is all too real within our present day society, and it is up to us to rescue the Cinderalla’s of our time.G reek mythologies are very important and relevant to today’s society. From the story of Pandora we have the concept of beautiful evil, which is still prevalent in our society. Pandora was the image of a perfect, beautiful woman, she was created to please the eye and deceive mankind.This idea of a ‘beautiful evil' is still present in today's society. In the mass media viewers are constantly bombarded with images of beautiful women in sexual roles and evil roles.Women are often portrayed as gifts to men and then become detrimental to them. This ‘good girl gone bad' image has its roots in Pandora's myth. Pandora was a perfect, beautiful woman when Epimetheus took her as his wife. But Pandora was a little too curious. Her weakness and inferior mind led her to open the container and release all of the evils onto mankind.Stories today form the basis of many cultures, as stories in some cultures are handed down from generation to generation, to teach life lessons and illu strate the folly of mankind. Often time’s stories are used as references and examples, when disciplining a troublesome child or are used as a way to inform a person of the consequences of their actions. An example of this is the story of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. This little boy cried wolf so many times that he was not believed when the wolf actually came and took the sheep.This serves as a lesson to would be liars, children and even adults who like to play pranks. The moral of the story is that, sometimes when you lie or make things up a lot, it is very hard for anyone to believe you. In the end the young boy learned his lesson.Some people argue that stories, fairytales and myths are rubbish and have no relevance in today’s society, but in my opinion, they do give relevance to the meaning of life, and what it is to love and live. You can live and not be happy. Fairytales especially, the ones like Cinderella make you believe in happy endings. Happy endings still exist to day, regardless of what people think.The story of Hansel and Gretel has a moral to it, that appearances are deceiving. This is very true in today’s society. Appearances among people are very deceiving and often times, you get trapped by the very person that seems to want to help you, only to destroy or try to destroy you in the end.To me the fairytale of Hansel and Gretel speak of caution and cautions people to beware of who they are around. I also think that Hansel and Gretel is a great story for teaching children not to trust strangers and to be aware of the people they are around. In conclusion, stories, fairytales, and myths are just as relevant a today as they were thousands of years ago.Works CitedTyree, R. (1998). Pandora.
